Few of My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens, brown paper packages tied up strinngggg, these are a few of my favorite thingggggs
Hello loves! Yes, it's the holidays, a time of Christmas lights, baking cookies, and listening to Christmas songs like that (yes I know Sound of Music isn't a Christmas movie, but it kinda is). Actually if it were me singing this song it be more like: frosting on cookies and words well written, leopard print pattern on everything-these are a few of my favorite things.

Not gonna lie guys, this sucked the big one, it was just terrible from start to finish and I'm hoping to God that one day I'll look back on this shitty year and laugh, but for now 2017: suck it.
HOWEVER I'm really trying hard to be positive so I decided to do a Few of my favorite things about this years, cool stuff I read, outfits I slayed, and products that I liked and just some cool positive stuff that I've tried to find in this shitty year, because darn it I'm going to be positive and then I won't feel so bad.

So here are some of my favorite things of this year:

Books

A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

I've legit have not stopped talking about this book since I've read it in July, I fell utterly in love with it . I got it in my July Owl Crate (one of my favorite things too) and I thought it was going to be a light YA romp but it had so much feelings and I connected with it on every level. I even had the opportunity to interview the author (which you can read here) and it's just an amazing book: LGBTQ, POC characters, deals with mental illness, sexuality, feminism, and more importantly, it's really freaking funny. Also Mackenzi Lee is on my authors to watch list because she has some amazing work coming out (a Loki novel OMG) and I'm so excited.

Turtles All the Way Down  by John Green

I have been waiting four years for the newest John Green novel and this did not disappoint, it might be one of my favorite John Green novels. For my full review, click here

Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

Okay  I know I'm a little late the Six of Crow series but guys if you haven't read it yet, you need too, like right now, like stop what you're doing and read it.  It totally flips the script on the classic YA fantasy with the "chosen one" fighting evil. This is a rag-tag group of murders and thieves going to get money because YOLO. The book has POC characters, LGBTQ characters, characters with disabilities and just great fully formed lovable characters and with such wonderful books that this series has my heart. Please read and cry with me.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

Admitable I bought the book after watching the AMAZING series on HBO but I fell so hard for this book that I could not put it down until it was over. It's funny, heart-felt and feminist AF and also one of the few books that handled eating disorder without giving into stereotypes. It has a bit of a murder mystery element to it but it's a huge social commentary of what woman (especially mothers) have to deal with. Read. It. Now.

Alias Grace by Margret Atwood
(I don't have a picture because I suck)

I know this book came out in the 90's but I read it this summer because I both Margret Atwood and very excited that Alias Grace was coming to Netfix (at least Margret Atwood was having a good year) so I read it and DAMMMMMMMMNNNNNN. Like DAMMMMMMMNNNNNN. That's all I have to say.

Outfits

I actually had this outfit for like a year now (the shoes are new) but it's still my favorite outfit I think I have in my closet. Maybe because I don't wear a lot of bright colors often (though as I make this list I realize that my favorite outfits are bright and floral this year.) and this is just very light and bubbly and kinda what I want to be all the time as a person. Also on a personal note I actually took this picture before going on the first date I've been on in a realllly long time. We went to an art gallery, then got thai food and gin and it was really fun and the conversation as good and even though I haven't seen this guy in like four months it was one of the happier moments of this year.

I've became so obsessed with LindyBop this year and this is the first dress I got from them and I think it's a tie for my favorite between my London dress. I like this it's slinky and pockets and it has such a fun and unique dress. Like it has Lions in top hats on it. How can you beat it?

Yo I got this dress for 3 bucks during one of Forever 21 blow out sales and I'm in love with it. Like i will wear leopard print anything but this dress is so cute and has some 70's vibes and I always feel a little bit better about myself when I wear it.

Fun fact, I LOVE surprises and nothing gets my gambling rush on like Modcloth Stylish Surprise. You've been on my up and down journey through all my Stylish Surprises this year but this dress I got in March's Stylish Surprise is my favorite. It's got pockets(every dress should have pockets to be honest), really nice material, I see so pretty twirling in it. Now all I need is somewhere to go in it.

Finally an all black outfit. I love a good blazer, like everyone needs a good blazer in their closet because you'll feel a hundred percent better about your life in general. I pokadots, high waisted skirts and old fashion heels and this has all of them. And it's got that Lois Lane vibe which is kinda my thing.
(apparently my printer was having a good year because it was in just about all of my photos lol.)

Things I Was Obsessed With

Vintage Dresses

I have always been a fan of vintage-inspired clothing but Amazon Prime and Lindy Bop have made vintage inspired dresses more affordable to me and therefore I can finally live out my dreams of twirling around in vintage inspired dresses. The London bus dress is a birthday gift from my best friend Kat and I love it. Vintage is the new black ya'll.

Signed Books
I've actually been getting int signed book lately that I might actually officially start collecting them. I kinda fell in getting signed book, first from getting them sighed from visiting authors that came to school, getting my favorite professor to sign a copy of his book to his "favoritest student" (That's right I'm Dr. Henry's favorite). Then from OwlCrate, John Green (because you have to get a signed John Green book) to my friend and work giving me books that I now have an official/unofficial collection of like 6 books and I need more. I just like the connection between the writer and the book you know?

Foxes
I, like most of the world, have come together to agree that foxes are the cutest woodland creature and I will almost automatically buy something that has a fox on it (hey I'm only human) Take for example, this fox dress from, of course LindyBop with my own fox dog Trixie (who actually hates having her photo taken and barks at the camera, ruining all of my shot). Seriously, the number of random fox things are ridiculous and foxy.

Mystery anything

As you know I love anything that says mystery. Maybe because I'm really a gambler at heart or super indecisive that I rather have the shopping gods roll the old dice (probably both TBH) but I am a sucker for anything mystery. From Modcloth Stylish Surprise, OwCrate and other subscription and Jordanene's mystery tees and tanks (If you haven't checked out Jordanene's clothing please do so now, they are an online shop based in Brooklyn selling cute nerdy stuff and they are all female run shop and the owners are super nice and really make the shopping experience personal which is a rare thing in the digital age so please check them out here

Cold Shoulder Anything

I don't even know how cold shoulder is a thing? Like they are just basically huge holes in your clothing but gosh darn it does it work. From shirts to dresses, short sleeves and turtlenecks, cold shoulder outfits just look amazing. It's like edgy without trying to hard, which is always what I look for in an outfit haha.

Items

This is my new favorite thing. This is one of the Christmas presents I got from Kat and it's just hilarious and blends my three favorite things together: Hufflepuff swag, mugs (I also have a collection of mugs) and swearing. This is my new catchphrase and proof that Kat is the real MVP.

Author Adornments is also a new shop that I fell in love with that combines my two favorite things: book quotes and jewelry. Now you can wear your favorite quotes on your body at all time, which is really all I ever wanted out of life. While Julie the owner of Author Adornment has a lot of cool pre-made stuff, you can actually get custom made stuff for about ten dollars more. Which is the long story on how I got my Hamilton Bracelet that I adore.

Out of Print Clothing Pun game is strong with my beloved Poe-a-Dot scarf with little Poe's on them. I really haven't stopped laughing since I bought it. Get it? Poe! With Poe faces! Someone stop me.

This last favorite item is a a little sappy, but writing has been and will always been my favorite thing. I cannot tell you  how many times writing has saved my life over and over again. It is not only my career but also my foundation for which I always build on. This year I had a good deal of work published and I'm proud of just about all of it and I'm grateful to my work.

Okay loves, that it for me today, I might do a part 2 of a few of my favorite things if I feel that people like it (doubtful but still). What are some of your favorite things? Let me know in the comments. I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feeeeel so badddddddddd
*gets booed off stage*
